Early this week MTA employees worked around the clock to repair a dangerous 5 train platform.
The platform, which has been undergoing repair work, collapsed on Tuesday April 26th. According to officials the weight of heavy machinery left on the platform caused the collapse. Miraculously no one was injured.
Many fear the station’s unsafe conditions could easily cause a derailment.
The incident occurred at the East 180th street and Eastchester-Dyer Avenue station, which has been undergoing repairs since 2014. The MTA has yet to release additional data regarding what safety precautions will be implemented (if any) to prevent future platform collapses.
