Free medical-screening is set to be offered to former workers of the federal governments nuclear waste repository thanks to a new project out of Queens College, New York.
Details of The Workers Health Protection Program will be announced later this month for former Waste Isolation Pilot Plant workers
The plant has been closed since February 2014, when a rupture occurred in a container of waste from Los Alamos National Laboratory. In total 22 workers were contaminated. It’s believed the breach occurred due to a chemical reaction in highly acidic waste.
